The production adapts Henri Roorda's novel, penned a century ago shortly before ending his own life. Far from mere somber tragedy, the text stands out for its fatalistic irony, unique humor, and deep personal honesty.

Through the perspective of Roorda—a humanist, free thinker, libertarian educator, and mathematics teacher—the monologue explores essential questions about love, education, marriage, capitalism, pleasure, desire, and friendship.
