📖 Music, memory, and coplas
In this performance, Xabier Amuriza and Agus Barandiaran fuse music and traditional coplas, delving into the meaning and essence of 85 compositions. The verses serve as snapshots of everyday memories: snow on the mountain, the neighborhood donkey, or rural life experiences.
Amuriza grew up in a world shaped by weekly traditional gatherings (romerías) that his grandmother held in front of the farmhouse, tambourine in hand and singing to get neighbors dancing. It was both a festive gathering and a way of life supported by selling food and drink.
🎶 A lifetime of oral tradition
Having known these romerías from home, Amuriza has spent his life researching and exploring the stories behind those sung verses. Alongside musician Agus Barandiaran, he looks back on his life through the coplas he has gathered and composed over the past decades.
✨ A touching journey through traditional song and living memory.
