The Victoria Eugenia Theatre hosts an evening dedicated to traditional Basque dance to commemorate a century of choreographic and cultural heritage. 🎭

As part of Iturritik Jaialdia 2026, the company Arkaitz Añorgako Dantzariak presents the commemorative production "1926-2026. Ehun urtez dantzan".

📖 A century of traditional dance on stage

To celebrate its centenary, Arkaitz Añorgako Dantzariak brings to the stage the Sagar-dantza, created from the melodies and structure of the apple dances collected by Aita Donostia and R. M. Azkue in Baztán. This choreography was originally designed for Saski Naski, a 1928 production created to showcase Basque folklore internationally.

The performance highlights the identity of the group through Ezpata-dantza, Agurra, and Soinu zaharrak. The program also proposes a journey across Basque territories, including traditional dances from Lapurdi, the Corpus or Besta Berri celebrations of Oñati, and dances performed during the Zuberoa masquerades.

Directed and choreographed by Joseba Astarbe, Egoitz Irazabalbeitia, and Nerea Unanue, the piece adapts several works by Juan Antonio Urbeltz and Marian Arregi (Argia Dantza Taldea). The event features a large cast of dancers and live musicians. The admission ticket also includes access to Street Pole Dance (18:15 in the foyer) and Otros aires (20:15 in the Club room) on the same day.
