📖 Aita Donostia's most ambitious creation
"Illustrations musicales pour La vie profonde de Saint François d’Assise" is, in terms of scale and duration, the most ambitious work ever composed by Aita Donostia. It was created as incidental music for a theatrical drama by Henri Ghéon, premiered in Paris in 1926 to mark the seventh centenary of the death of Saint Francis of Assisi, the order to which the San Sebastián friar and composer belonged.
The score unfolds an extraordinarily rich sonic palette where meditative spirituality meets radiant choral writing, traditional Basque roots, and the innovative techniques of the Parisian interwar avant-garde.
🎶 Performers and conducting
This major musical heritage recovery project is led by conductor Ernest Martínez Izquierdo. Sharing the stage with Euskadiko Orkestra are tenor Luken Munguira alongside the choirs Easo Abesbatza and Easo Gazte.
✨ A rare opportunity to experience a monumental Basque symphonic and choral masterpiece live at the Kursaal.
