📖 Romantic adventures across the seas
Inspired by Lord Byron's celebrated romantic poem and set to music by Adolphe Adam with later additions by Riccardo Drigo, Léo Delibes, and Cesare Pugni, this three-act ballet premiered at the Paris Opera in 1856. The production follows the legendary 1866 choreographic version by Jules Perrot and Marius Petipa.
The story follows Conrad the corsair, his loyal slave Ali, and his companion Birbanto. Arriving at a Turkish bazaar, they witness Lankedem bargaining with a Pasha over enslaved captives, including the stunning Medora. Conrad falls deeply in love with her, triggering an adventure filled with daring rescues, betrayals in pirate caves, and dramatic confrontations inside the Pasha's palace.
