📖 Solitude reflected in the song of a whale
The title of the performance refers to the frequency of an unusual sound recorded over the past 35 years across various points of the Pacific Ocean, similar to a blue whale's call. Because blue whales typically communicate between 10 and 39 hertz, the voice of this solitary creature vibrates at 52 hertz, remaining beyond the hearing range of its species, leaving its call unheard.
Assuming this whale may have been born deaf and never learned to vocalize at the common frequency, the production uses its story as a symbol of social isolation, weaving a multi-faceted look at unwanted loneliness. Moving away from realism, the staging relies on poetic imagery, evocative soundscapes, and choreographic elements.
